Yesterday, I was sitting at my desk just feeling incredibly grateful, and I had a realization about fundraising that completely shifted my mindset.
We talk constantly about financial capital. And believe me, Pistachio Pay absolutely needs financial capital to make our platform a reality. But I think we need to stop focusing exclusively on the money and start recognizing the massive amount of capital we already have around us.
I was reflecting on all the people who, for absolutely no incentive other than loving the vision, have given me so much of their time.
They make introductions for me. They believe in the mission, and they believe in me as a leader. That goes a long way. It is not just encouraging. It is capital.
I call it Time Capital and Relational Capital.
When industry veterans spend an hour on Zoom just to sharpen your pitch, that is capital. When advisors and investors stake their own reputations to make warm introductions, that is capital.
Time is the one asset high performers cannot make more of. When they choose to invest it in you for free, that is GOLD.
But what if you do not have those relationships yet?
My encouragement to you is this: do not be afraid to just reach out. If you are passionate about what you are building, especially if you are building it from your own lived experience to make a real impact on the world, there is absolutely nothing to be shy about.
Just reach out and ask, "Do you want to hear about this amazing thing we are doing? Are you interested in a short conversation?"
Even if they are not deploying capital right now, or you do not fit their exact thesis, if they catch the vision and they like who you are, they will make introductions. They will open doors because they know there is something special there.
The pressure of building a company is crushing, especially for underrepresented founders without a safety net. But if we shift our mindset to truly value relational capital, that is the exact fuel that will sustain us until the financial capital lands.
Money should work with your brain.
