The Neurodivergent Tax Collects Every Day

The IRS collects on April 15th. The “Neurodivergent Tax” collects every single day.

Tax Day is just around the corner. While neurotypical brains see a deadline, neurodivergent brains see a wall.

Experts estimate that 50% of adults with ADHD will not file their taxes by the deadline. Nearly 10% have not filed in over three years.

The financial system calls this “irresponsibility.” Neuroscience calls it “structural predictability.” My husband Nathan has spent years in tax resolution, so our household knows firsthand the devastation of those compounding IRS penalties.
But missing April 15th deadline is just the tip of the iceberg.

What exactly is the ND Tax? You have probably heard of the “ADHD Tax” before. It is the late fees, the duplicate spends, the impulse purchases, the NSF fees, and the forgotten subscriptions.

But this does not just affect ADHD. Neurodivergent people of all kinds are disproportionately prone to these systemic traps. When you take those daily financial leaks and add IRS late penalties on top of them, the financial drain becomes catastrophic.

I wanted to see exactly how much the system was quietly siphoning from me. So, I built a custom AI to calculate my own ND Tax.

I didn’t fill out a 50-question survey. I just uploaded three months of bank statements, answered some questions, and let it do the work. It scanned for the convenience costs, the late fees, and the dopamine spending that happens when executive function hits zero.

The number it gave me back was shocking:

$1,350/mo.😳🤯

My first instinct was to hide that number, but I am sharing it because that is precisely the problem.

The system punishes unpredictability and rewards perfect executive function.
Every one of those line items is evidence of a system failure, not a personal one.

I am done carrying the shame for a system that was never built for my brain. And I want you to be done, too.

I am making my custom “ND Tax Calculator” GPT public today.
Upload your statements (it does not store your data). Let it do the math.

Zero shame. Zero judgment.

Let’s put a real dollar amount on what this broken system is costing us. And then, let’s fix it.

That is exactly why we are building Pistachio Pay, the first trauma-informed financial automation platform specifically designed to work with neurodivergent brains, not against them.
