I watched The Smashing Machine last weekend and I can’t stop thinking about it. And because my brain works the way it does, I couldn’t just watch the movie. I had to Google and research the whole time. 👩🏻💻
The production is incredible. They nailed the late 90s/early 2000s vibe perfectly. 🎬
But what stayed with me is the tension at the heart of the story.
Mark Kerr had it all. The title. The money. The crowds. 🏆
But underneath it all, he was frail and vulnerable, wearing a mask of strength while burying his sadness in drugs.
A loss in Japan triggered a spiral.
An overdose landed him in the hospital.
His friend Mark Coleman came to see him. No shame. No judgment. Just presence. 🫶
And even with that kind of support, even with rehab, even with people who loved him, Kerr still lost almost everything financially. His marriage ended. His career ended. At one point he was working at a car dealership.
There’s no judgment in that. But it’s the truth about addiction: it doesn’t care how much money you have.
That’s why I’m building Pistachio Pay. 💚
It’s just as much for the person coming out off Skid Row as it is for the superstar champion.
We want to protect your money. We want you to enjoy it. And we want you to build healthy habits that last.
We’re building the first trauma-informed financial automation platform because recovery doesn’t come with a rulebook.
Money should work with your brain.
Pistachio Pay is being built to reduce the mental load of money management for neurodivergent adults.
